In our continuing effort to familiarize the members of the Bad Axe Chamber of Commerce to the public, we ask our members to introduce themselves on our “Meet Your Chamber Member” page. This month we are highlighting Tom McCollum, owner of the Peppermill Restaurant and Chiller’s Grill in Bad Axe. Tom purchased the Peppermill Restaurant in 1994 and Chiller’s Grill in 2011.
For over 20 years, the Peppermill Restaurant has been serving home cooked meals and desserts. The restaurant is open 7 days a week and on Friday, restaurant diners enjoy live entertainment beginning at 5:30 pm. An adjoining banquet room with accommodations for up to 50 guests was added for private parties or group meetings. Chiller’s Grill offers menu items such as sandwiches, chicken, fries, ice cream, drinks and specialty cakes. Chiller’s Grill is seasonal, opened March through the end of October with daily hours.
When asked what he likes most about his job, Tom replied “my customers”. Whether they are regulars or visitors to the area, he enjoys meeting all his patrons. He also enjoys working with his staff, from managers, cooks and wait staff – they’re a fantastic group of employees!
Tom joined the Bad Axe Chamber because he likes working with various civic and community groups. Besides the Bad Axe Chamber of Commerce, Tom is a member of the Masons and supports numerous civic organizations.
Tom and his wife Debra love spending time in the yard and traveling when they can. While Debra’s passion may be horses, Tom is a machinist, welder and builder. Tom’s current project is building a barn! Tom and Debra have five grown children and three grandchildren, with one more grandchild on the way.
The next time you are in Bad Axe, stop in and enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Peppermill restaurant. As Tom’s website states…“Where you’re always welcome!” Thanks Tom, we’ll do just that!
